Jose Canseco's book "Juiced. Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball got Big", was released just before the steroid storm hit Major League Baseball.
The book itself it an easy read and can be read in one or two extended sittings. When the book first came out, everyone jumped on Canseco saying he didn't know what he was talking about and he over-exaggerated the whole story. To everyone's surprise, most of his allegations turned out to be true!
MLB labeled him as a turncoat rat but the people he singled out as steroid abusers turned out to be true. Players like Raphael Palmiero, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire were all named. Of course, only one of these players actually tested positive for the juice but most people have made up their own minds about if they did them or not.
Overall, the book is informative and is a good, gossipy read but it won't win any awards in literature! Check it out to read about the life of one of baseball's biggest "juicers" but make sure an take it with a grain of salt before making up your mind about steroids in baseball.
